Dear Residents,
Happy Spring! While we have had rain in the past couple of weeks, I hope everyone has had an opportunity to enjoy the warmer weather. Warmer weather means enjoying our beautiful parks and ravines in Ward 4 and the city. However, we also have a responsibility to protect our green spaces. So, as you enjoy these spaces, please make sure not to leave litter or pick up any litter you see and put in the correct bins
Warmer months also mean construction season will begin. If you are planning construction projects, please ensure you abide by our construction hours and materials cannot be stored on our roads without a road occupancy permit. Additional details are provided further down.
City staff is hosting the second meeting regarding the city's Main St. Markham Traffic calming initiative. I have included details below. This is an opportunity for residents to offer feedback regarding the option the city is considering.
We also have a meeting regarding our off-leash dog areas and a meeting with animal care officers that you may be interested in.
As we are approaching the long weekend. Victoria Day is one of only two days each year you can have family fireworks without a permit. Please remember that fireworks are only permitted on private property and is prohibited in any parks or public spaces. Additional guidelines Here

Grass Cutting
We have received complaints regarding the maintenance of grass cutting on our boulevards and open spaces. The persistent rainfall has posed significant challenges for our staff impeding their ability to cut the grass effectively. The excessively wet ground conditions have in some cases resulted in our equipment becoming immobilized. |
|
|
|
|
Further to environmental challenges, one of our contractors hired was unable to fulfil the conditions of the contract and another contractor was recently hired to help with boulevard cutting. In some locations it will require 2-3 cut cycles to bring the areas back to city standards. Please be patient while we manage the rapid growth of grass and correct any deficiences. Please direct any concerns to customerservice@markham.ca |

I have been advised of some recent coyote sightings in some areas of Ward 4. Please notify our animal care officers at animalservices@markham.ca for any sightings.

Utility Flags
We have been receiving a number of calls from residents regarding the Bell Fibre construction in some areas of Ward 4 and the utility flags Bell has been putting on lawns. Please do not remove the flags. The missing flags will require another request for a re-locate of existing utilities as they can not start the work without locates. These flags are also in the City's right of way. If you have any questions or concerns, please email customerservice@markham.ca
