I hope everyone is enjoying the weather and that you were able to attend and enjoy the Markham Village Music Festival this year.

There are a number of events happening over the long weekend and also throughout the summer, so I hope you can make time to join some local activities.
The City Canada Day event this year features JUNO Award-Nominated Singer and Actress Fefe Dobson. Additional information on the celebrations can be found HERE.
On July 6th we will be officially opening the Roy Ramer Park located at 11 James Parrott Ave.
If you are available, drop by between 11am and 1pm.

Temporary Lane Restriction on 16th Avenue
The Regional Municipality of York is in the final stages of rehabilitating the York Durham Sewage System (YDSS) on 16th Avenue in the City of Markham. A temporary westbound lane restriction on 16th Avenue at Elizabeth Street is needed to remove the temporary sewage bypass and restore the area. Restrictions will be until August 14, 2024 (weather dependent). Westbound lanes will be restricted between the hours of 9.30am to 3:30pm and 9pm to 5am.

Road Closure Notification

Alectra Construction in Ward 4
Alectra will be replacing the aging underground distribution cables located within the vicinity of Raymerville Dr and Cobbler Crescent. Residents can expect to see Alectra’s civil contractor, Trans Power Utility Contractors Inc. Work will start approximately mid-July 2024.

Markham's Sewer Back-Up Process
One of the common concerns from residents is about tree roots and damage to their homes. Homeowners are unsure of what the process is around damage and who is responsible for what when flooding or back-up happens.

Reminder! Dog Poop Goes in the Green Bin
To help reduce the amount of pet waste ending up in the landfill, bring your dog poop home and place it in your green bin, which helps poop from decomposing and ending up in our local streams and rivers. Park and Play Fun Tour Returns!
The Park & Play Fun Tour is returning to Markham this summer! It is a traveling trailer that goes to community parks all over the city, bringing loads of free activities and games for children between the ages of four and 12!You can find the traveling trailer at various parks across the city, every Wednesday from 10 AM- 2PM starting July 10th. Markham Fire and Emergency Services is hosting four public education open houses at fire stations across the city this Summer to promote fire prevention and emergency preparedness, and you're invited!
There will be fun activities for all ages, information booths, Q & A Sessions and a BBQ! Registration is not required. Please see the dates below and attend a session!

Tree Stump Removal
City staff and contractors are working on removing approx. 1000 tree stumps and hope to be completed by August 1st (weather permitting). The next round of removals will take place in the fall. If you have a tree stump waiting to be removed, please be patient as city staff and contractors are dealing with fallen trees from the recent heavy rain and storms. |

Markham Mayor's Youth Council Applications
The Markham Mayor's Youth Council (MMYC) is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated teens to join the team for the 2024 to 2025 term. This is a great opportunity for students to develop leadership skills, gain experience in civic engagement and build lasting relationships with fellow young leaders. |

Applications are open to students from Grades 8 to12 interested in making a difference in their community. To apply, applicants must either live in Markham or attend a school within the city. Participating in Public Meetings
All public meetings are now hybrid and live streamed from the city website.
Residents can attend in person at the council chambers or you can attend virtually. Written submissions can be emailed to clerkspublic@markham.ca by 5pm the day before the meeting.
Residents who wish to speak on a topic can fill out an online request to speak form or email clerkspublic@markham.ca. If someone does not have access to email they can call the clerk's office at 905.479.7760 on the day of the meeting to make a deputation (speak).

Aggressive driving continues to be a concern in the city, our own local ward and across the entire GTA. Moving violations are under the jurisdiction of York Regional Police (YRP) and reports can be filed through RoadWatch. For general concerns you can use the community concerns online reporting HERE. |
