We're near the end of 2024! What a year it has been. It's hard to believe it is now time to plan for the holidays. I hope many of you had a chance to enjoy the Festival of Lights and the 50th Annual Santa Claus Parade, even though it was quite chilly!

Developement Service Agenda
- The application for 5871 Hwy #7 will be on the agenda for next weeks development services committee meeting December 10th.
- The Markville Secondary Plan update has been rescheduled from Dec 10th to Dec 17th.
Micro-Mobility Pilot Project - Did you know we have a pilot project for e-bikes and scooters in Markham Centre? I have been approached by Ride Scooty, a micro-mobility provider, who would like to expand to other locations in Markham, Your feedback is crucial - please take a moment to complete the survey in the newsletter.

5871 Hwy # 7
The City and the applicant have been collaborating over the past few couple of months to explore options for reducing the height of the proposed building. However, the applicant has chosen to proceed with the original revised plan, featuring 5 stories at the rear and 13 stories along Hwy # 7.
This application will be heard at our DSC meeting on Tuesday Dec 10th at 9.30 am. Residents can particpate either in person or virtually. You can access the report HERE

Stouffville Line GO Train Adjustments- December 6-8 and 13-15
The Stouffville Line GO train will not run during the weekends of December 6-8 and 13-15 to undergo essential track construction and maintenance. GO Bus Route 70D, 71C & 71E will replace train service, serving most stations except; Kennedy GO, Agincourt GO and Milliken GO.

Canada Post Strike Disruptions
Residents who use York Region Services, please be aware that the Region will not send large distribution mailings, such as notices, immunization letters, including suspension orders, and tickets. Incoming mail from Canada Post will be suspended. For more information visit York Region Website. |

The Mayors budget was adopted last week. Property taxes are increasing by 3.88% in 2025. This increase consists of 2.65% for day-to-day operations .08% for infrastructure and .43% as payback towards the corporate rate stabilization reserve. Markham Village Flood Control - the City of Markham typically ends construtcion activities on October 31st each year. Given the importance of the Markham Village Flood protection and the warmer weather, our contractors will continue working until the holiday season Dec 20th- Dec 23rd. Once again I will be participating in the 360Experience to bring awareness to at-risk-youth. This is our 12th annual expereince - a powerful overnight event that raises funds but also brings attention to the reality faced by homeless youth in York Region, agend 12-26 years old. Over 3000 young people rely on 360kids every year for shelter, guidance and hope.

Participating in Public Meetings
All public meetings are now hybrid and live streamed from the city website.
Residents can attend in person at the council chambers or you can attend virtually. Written submissions can be emailed to clerkspublic@markham.ca by 5pm the day before the meeting.
Residents who wish to speak on a topic can fill out an online request to speak form or email clerkspublic@markham.ca. If someone does not have access to email they can call the clerk's office at 905.479.7760 on the day of the meeting to make a deputation (speak).

Aggressive driving continues to be a concern in the city, our own communities and across the entire GTA. Moving violations are under the jurisdiction of York Regional Police (YRP) and reports can be filed through RoadWatch. For general concerns you can use the community concerns online reporting HERE. |
