Dear Residents,
Happy Spring! With the days getting longer, we're looking forward to some consistently warm weather! As we welcome the spring season, our Environmental Services team will be hosting the annual compost giveaway during the first two weeks of May. Registration will start April 22nd. More details will be available on the city website next week.
We had a good turnout for the Phase 1B Markham Village Flood Control Implementation meeting. This project will involve street closures as infrastructure upgrades take place. If you were unable to attend and would like a copy of the presentation or be advised of future updates, please email Savindi at sjinasena@markham.ca to be added to this particular emailing list.
Mark your calendars - some exciting events are happening this summer.
- Markham Cycling Day - June 15th (on Main St N)
- Markham Village Music Festival - June 20th and June 21st (Volunteers needed, apply through the MVMF Website).
As we all know, a federal election has been called for Monday, April 28th. For more information on key early voting dates, your riding and your candidates, please visit Elections.ca.
Additionally, Markham Council did endorse a new "Buy Canada" policy.
Regards,
Karen

Coyote Denning Season: Important Safety Information:
As we continue through coyote denning season, residents may notice an increase in coyote activity within our community. During this time, it is important to be aware of best practices for coexisting safely with wildlife. If you encounter a coyote:
|
|
|
Do not run - instead, remain calm and stand your ground.
Make yourself appear larger by raising your arms and making loud noises to deter the animal (carrying an umbrella and popping it open is a great way to make noise).
Keep pets safe by ensuring dogs are on a secure leash no longer than six feet at all times.
To report a coyote sighting, contact our Animal Services Dept. at 905-415-7531.

Fire Safety Scam Alert
Fraudsters are selling smoke & CO2 alarms that may not meet Canadian standards with fake safety checklists. Beware of individuals posing as fire safety experts, fraudulent pamphlets disguised as home safety checklists, and selling smoke and carbon dioxide alarms that don't appear to meet Canadian standards. Other things to watch out for that may indicate a fraudster include no real business cards, cash-only payment options, and high-pressure sales.

Parkway and Main St N
City engineers conducted an AutoTURN analysis to simulate the movement of a bus making a left turn from southbound Main ST N to Parkway Ave. The analysis identified an encroachment into the opposing left-turn lane. City staff will be repainting the stop line to be setback 2.5m from its current position which will help mitigate conflicting turning movements. |
