Dear Residents,
Please be advised that the Draft Markville Secondary Plan is scheduled to be presented at the Development Services Committee on Tuesday June 10th 2025 at 9.30 am.
This meeting is an opportunity for residents to provide feedback before the final version of the plan proceeds to a statutory meeting in the fall.
The secondary plan outlines future land use planning for the Markville area, including guidance on building heights, density, parks, schools, infrastructure, as well as identifying opportunities and constraints within the plan boundary.
You can access the council agenda here and the Draft Markville Secondary Plan Report.
(if the agenda changes these links may not work - all information can be found on the city website under council agendas)
After reviewing the draft plan, I have identified a number of concerns that I will raise during the meeting, including:
- Proposed height and density at the southeast corner of Highway 7 and McCowan Rd. which includes heights up to 20 stories. (Boundary height of 8)
- Loss of employment uses in this same location.
- Introduction of residential uses on the east side of McCowan Rd may lead to the displacement of existing businesses currently operating in the area.
- Overall reduction of employment lands by approximately 50%
- Concentration of parkland primarily on the east side of McCowan
- Concerns about infrastructure capacity, including sanitary, stormwater and water services.
Your feedback is important and I encourage you to submit written comments/questions or to attend in person if you are able, to ensure community voices are heard, as we plan for the future of Markville.
Regards
Karen Rea
