Dear Residents,
I hope you're enjoying the warmer weather and have had a chance to explore some of the great events and trails around the neighbourhood. The Markham Village Music Festival was a wonderful success and thankfully, the weather cooperated!
As this will be the final newsletter for the summer, I wanted to highlight a few key items coming up this fall that may be of interest. June was a busy month at Council, and as we prepare to head into our summer break. This time allows us to catch up on outstanding matters and connect with residents.
A few notable updates are:
The draft Markville Secondary Plan was presented to council. While it was not endorsed at this time, the plan was referred to a council workshop for further review. This will give us an opportunity to better understand the proposal, including the amount of density being considered.
Parking Strategy Workshop:
A workshop on the city's parking strategy is also underway. You can find more information under parking strategy.
Inclusionary Zoning
Inclusionary zoning is a policy tool provided by the Province to help municipalities secure affordable housing units in new developments. Given current market conditions, our consultant continues to assess how this can be effectively implemented in partnership with the development community.
Ninth Line and Hwy # 7 Application
An application has been submitted for a high-rise development at this location. A community information meeting is scheduled for September 18th with the start time still to be confirmed. Additional details about the proposal are included further down in this email.
For a broader perspective on city-wide matters and Ward 3, you may also be interested in Councillor McAlpine's recent newsletter, which can be read here.
Wishing you a safe and enjoyable summer!
Karen
