Dear Residents,
Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that 2023 flew by and now we are in 2024! I wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous year ahead! 2023 was a busy year both provincially and here at the municipality.
As you may all know, Markham is getting a lot of development, and perhaps one of the most controversial developments is the CF Markville Mall redevelopment application. It was nice to see so many residents come out in December to the meeting, that is how democracy works!
We have a number of important meetings coming up; Markville Mall, Comprehensive Zoning By-law, pedestrian bridge in Wismer, traffic calming on Main St N and a severance on Rouge St.
Details on all of these are in the body of the e-newsletter.
Once again, I will be participating in the 360Experience to raise funds for our youth-at-risk. Funds raised help the numerous programs that 360kids provide; from transitional housing, youth homes, trafficking, education and employment programs, emergency shelter and more. All donations would be appreciated to help me meet my fundraising goal this year.
While we had a quiet December in terms of snow, looks like we are now going to start to see some winter weather, great for our skiers and winter activities that we all enjoy.
Please be careful when travelling out during winter weather conditions.
Regards,
Karen

Why does the City have to approve development projects?
The City of Markham will see a population increase of 280,100 by the year 2051 to a forecasted population of 619,2000 and 309,200 jobs. With the recent announcement from the Provincial government, the city had to pledge to facilitate the building of 44,000 homes in the next 10 years. Overall, the city needs to accommodate the building of an additional 97,000 housing units to meet the growth targets. To share your thoughts on this click here |

Friendly Reminder About Walking at Night
Please make sure you wear a lighter coloured jacket or a holographic vest when walking in the night. That way, you will be visible to drivers and other pedestrians. There are areas in the ward that are much darker than others, so please be safe when walking in the evenings or at night.
